These charts provide the vocabulary used with each of the four operations: addition, subtraction, multiplication, and division. Additionally, there is one chart that refers to fractions (numerator/denominator). The vocabulary is written where a number would usually be as part of solving the operation. For example, “addend + addend = sum” contains vocabulary for addition.
These charts are intended to be printed in landscape mode on 8.5×11″ paper or cardstock. They could also be printed 6 to a page in order to have mini charts for students to keep at their desks or in their notebooks or binders.
Knowing the vocabulary for operations is as important as understanding how to do the procedure, especially for solving word problems. For example, if a student isn’t sure if quotient refers to division or multiplication, it’s going to be tough to correctly solve the problem!
These are helpful to hang in the classroom, or to have available at your side during lessons for a visual aid.
